The Midweek CC and LaBiciSquadra/RealDealRacing are proud to present another season of the Thursday night time trial series (TNTT)

Ed Veal wins the first of the 2010 edition of the Midweek/LaBiciSquadra/RealDealRacing Thursday Night Time Trial series that kicked off last night under very blustery conditions. Twelve raced under the partly cloudy skies of North Toronto.

This year on top of providing the best TT in the GTA we are going to have a points system that rewards you over the course of the season and crown a series champion in a number of different catagories - Awards will be given for Elite TT, Eddy Merckx, Women's, most improved and fastest ET. You will need to race 6 races to qualify for the series awards.

Ed and I, LabiciSquadra and Midweek CC, are looking forward to another great year at the TNTT. We will start this year on May 6, 2010. Same place (Elgin Mills and Kennedy Rd), same time (1st rider off at 6:45).

I am waiting on confirmation of our permission to use the parking at the North Toronto Chinese Baptist Church on Kennedy, and will keep you posted. That will be known by the first race.

40 K TNTT championship, Ficko wins the gold

The 2009 TNTT time trial series concluded this fine evening with a 41.5K (according to Bikely.com) race. Ten racers came out to try to claim one of our championship medals. LaBicicletta/JLindberg's Ficko claimed the gold with a 44.4 kph average winning time of 56:07, The silver went to Petrovski of Wheels of Bloor with 56:43, and Midweek's Frake took home the bronze with 59:42.

4th place was LaBicicletta/JLindberg's Merrill Collins, the fastest female who almost claimed the bronze with a time of exactly 1 hour.

Conditions were very pleasant 23C, wind S @ 8kph, sky was completely clear.

This was our first use of the roads up this way, the suggestion provided by a Canadian Cyclist forum member. This was an excellent course, we appreciate the suggestion.

Not sure where to park yet.

We would do this lap 2x for nearly exactly 40k.

I think it would be hard to do a 40K near our normal spot because of the road construction. This would be a nice change as well.

I will plan on going out to ride it next week to see what it is like.

TNTT 15K (but really 12.5K) championship results, Ficko wins

We had an amazing turnout Thursday night for our 15km championship TT. 26 riders made it out tonight to try and take home the gold. The course had to be re-routed and shortened a bit but that didn't stop anyone from giving their all trying to take the title. With a north wind pushing the field home to the finish it was an extremely fast night with little or no places to make up time. If you didn't hammer the uphill start you would need to push more than a 58 tooth front chain ring to keep up with our winner. With the provincial TT only 2 weeks away, Darko Ficko came out tonight and showed everyone he is in fine form and ready to rip the heavy weight belt from around Ryan Roth's waist.

Gold goes to Darko Ficko with a 48.6 avg speed on the 12.5 km course and a time of 15.26. Silver goes to IIija Petrovski with a 48.3 km avg and a time of 15:31 and the bronze goes to Ed Veal with an average speed of 48kms an hour and 12 seconds behind with a time of 15:38. Bryan Wolfe had the fastest 15km TT of the entire season and has a medal to prove it but..... was 5 seconds off the podium tonight! Oh ya.....check out Merrill's time too, I see a few provincial golds in this line up!!

LaBiciSquadra C.C and Midweek C.C Presents the Thursday Night Time Trial (TNTT)

Tonight was as beautiful a night as we have had all year. We had 20 riders turnout to test themselves against the GTA`s best. The wind was slightly out of the south which is perfect for this Stouffville course. The problem was that there was dirt and sand from construction on one of the corners that took away from the perfect conditions. Thanks to everyone for taking it easy and not putting themselves in harms way, even with having to take it a bit easier Ilija Petrovski (Wheels of Bloor) went under the 20 minute mark posting a very solid 19:50 to take the win tonight. We had a few new faces out tonight and two of them got into the top 5, congrats to David Pierce (5th) with a 21:43 and Ryan Hodgkinson (4th) with a 21:40. Both these guys were flying their Bikesports team colors with pride making Tom back at the shop very proud!! Great job everyone!!

TNTT Results - Thursday August 6th, 2009

It was a beautiful August night but the wind just wasn't blowing the right way! After last weeks perfect conditions tonight just seemed...... SLOW!! A north wind isn't ideal on this course and the times sure reflect it, BU........T that didn't stop Ed Makarchuk from having his fastest time of the year and taking the win with a 20:35!! A crazy fast time into a head wind! Thanks to Rod McEwen for doing the timing and Judy Veal for taking care of the split times.

We will be having an end of season BBQ in the church parking lot on the 27th of August as well as our club championship 15km TT. This will be for all the marbles!! We will have medals for both categories (TT and Eddy Merckx) and Midweek and LaBiciSquadra will provide of all the food and maybe even a few cold beers! ( I said maybe : )

The challenge has been answered, we have a new course record for the season and it belongs to Bryan Wolff.

Some new faces producing some super fast times. LaBicicletta/JLindberg's Bryan Wolff and MCOR's Derek Ivey both broke the previous season record, finishing 1 and 2 for the night. Paolo Dilecce from Wheels of Bloor and Midweek's Dave Frake joined the highly exclusive under 20 minute club. This club's membership tripled tonight, with veterans, Ed Veal and Ilija Petrovski welcoming four new members.

Conditions were ideal with 24C, 61% humidity and wind from the south at 11 kph.

Good turnout and improving times. Charles Magyar knocked 2 minutes off his previous best, Mandy Mayo, Greg Wellman, Mike Steed, Joel Cash, Bob Tomsic, Charles Gordon all set a personal best times tonight. Chris Chambers continued to be cursed with flats.

Tonight our fastest was one of our steadfast regulars, Wheels of Bloor's own Paolo Dilecce.

A beautiful evening, but unfortunately there was a crash. One of our riders suffered a skewer failure and went down, we are saddened to report. In good spirits on the way to the ER, one of our regulars, Paul Rea, seems to have survived pretty much okay, as did his beautiful Colnago. ER doc (and 2008 M2 provincial TT champ) Bryan Wolff happened by and helped out. The 6 DNF's include 5 riders who stopped to help out.

The Crash did not slow the remainder too much. We were pleased to welcome some new faces.

Season record tied by Ilija Petrovski of Wheels of Bloor!! The
gauntlet has been thrown down. We can hardly wait for next week.

Excellent conditions to to be on a bike outside tonight as the
Midweek/LaBiciSquadra 14.8K TNTT (Thursday Night Time Trial) series
continues. Environment Canada says it was 20C, 50% humidity, wind ESE
at 17 kph (a very unusual wind direction for us). We enjoyed a great
turnout Many of our riders clocked their season's best tonight.

Dense cool air blowing dead south at 11 kph makes it hard to on this
course, as the 1.25 laps includes the northbound stretch twice. These
were the hard facts tonight at the Midweek/LaBiciSquadra's TNTT, as Ed
Veal of LaBicicletta/JLindberg won, but did not make his goal of
besting his season record. Maybe our fastest guy's (tonights 1st
place, Veal, and 2nd place, Jet Fuel Coffee's Peter Morse) legs are a
little bit tired after trying in vain to chase down Planet Energy's
Ryan Roth at Midweek's 29th Canada Day CHIN picnic criterium race
yesterday. Times seemed a bit slow as nobody recorded their fastest
time this year, except Steve Pasquill. Our 3rd place rider tonight,
Pasquill, is showing continuing improvement. Great Job Everyone!

TNTT results, 18JUN2009 Ed Veal wins, set new 2009 record

Humid and cool, with a slow wind tonight (18C, 82%, NNE @ 5kph) at the Midweek/Labicicletta TNTT (Thursday Night time Trial) in Unionville Ontario. LaBicicletta's Ed Veal is the fastest of them all and sets a new 14.8 km course record for 2009 at 19:30. It was an international event tonight as we welcomed Anthony Walsh from the University College Dublin (Ireland) and Armada Racing's Chad Luedtke from Orlando Florida, US. Not only did Walsh win the rider from farthest, he also won the most unusual ride as he clocked a respectable 21:26 on a single speed fixed gear TT rig.

ITT results, 21MAY2009

We had super weather, sunny, warm. 28C, and a slower wind. Environment Canada says the wind was SW@33kph.

Our crowd was the largest ever. We experienced a little bit of growing pains, but we have complete and accurate results. Being an experimental physicist, I know the value of the raw data. If you have that, you have everything. So, I had some trouble keeping track of who was who and ciphering up the ET's but the times were accurately measured. Actually, my helper mashed the lap timer each time one of you guys passed, so I had super accurate times, and two stopwatches to compare to increase my confidence in my measurements of your ET's.

Armed with the power of Intel and Microsoft, I was able to deal with the 30 second intervals, when I got home. Posted here you will find, highly accurate, to the 0.1 sec, results.

Ed has the sign in sheet, so I do not have all the affiliations yet, or who rode TT and who rode EM style. I will add that later.

Some clarification may be helpful about timekeeping.

To get an accurate ET, I need to have you guys start time exactly and finish time exactly. If I could, I would have a stopwatch for each of you, and maybe have you each ride your ride start to finish before the next rider started. Of course that would have taken 10 hours to do tonight, so that is not practical. So we stagger everyone start. Of course, this is old news to all of us.

So, my most important task is knowing who started when, and measuring and recording when you cross the finish line. After that, sorting out identities at the finish line. I count on you to tell me your start number. I am not looking at you, I am looking at the clock to get the time, and I am listening for the number. If I do not get the number, that messes things up. Tonight, we have about 8 folks who did not provide me their number. It was a tad confusing to figure it all out, but I am confident that I managed it, with a lot of help from Ed and Mandy, I surely want to say. After that, there is the math to deduct your start time from your finish time. This is kinda hard math when on the spot for 30 second starts. What moron came up with this time system. I propose that we immediately switch to 10 hour days, 100 minute hours and 100 second minutes.

Anyway. I apologise for the late and confusing results tonight. When our group was small, I could cipher your ET's before you turned around. Using a computer did not make sense. It does now, I am bringing (actually I had my computer tonight) next week to make things faster and less confusing.

So to recap. For tonights race, I got all your times on two stopwatches. I am going to report the times recorded using the laptimer. I compared all times to make sure there were no major disagreements.

It was great to have this big group tonight. I hope all will continue coming on out. See you next week.
